The Situation In Philadephia

February 8th, 2008

The best things in life sometimes occur by chance. Such was the case when Christopher Tucker ran into Joe “Joey Marr” Castro at a Beck/Oasis concert in late 1999. After a few brief hiccups, the two joined with bassist Jared Style and drummer and phenom drummer John Paul Travis to form The Situation.

Soon after their first live show in Philadelphia, the band was garnering lots of attention. The Philadelphia Weekly lauded their single “The Best Prescription Pill Available” as “absolute f***ing pop genius”. In 2003, the Reece Nasty EP was released to much local acclaim. A record label from L.A. , Elephant Stone Records, subsequently picked their debut EP and helped the group release a full length self titled album in 2006 which was widely heralded as a worthy debut. Their unique blending of British Rock meets Indie Pop finds Neil Young is very catchy and radio friendly.

So where is The Situation today? Their Myspace says the group has split up and gone there separate ways. Why does a band with so much potential, talent, and inevitable pop success split up? No clues are given anywhere, just a “dear john” one liner. Nonetheless, The Situation’s albums are worth a download. Just follow the links:
